Technical Run

We had our tech run this afternoon. The reason why a tech run is done is to see what problems and obstacles are encountered so we can practically solve them before the show opens.

Unlike most days we've been having the past two weeks we didn't have an early start as we started at 12:30pm to set up our props in the wings. When we arrived Mark and Ron were already in the process of doing the lighting plot for the show so the stage was dark at times. Rebecca gave me a torch to use when the lights were out as we couldn't switch the workers on (main lights). Alan was doing some maintenance to the set, Tory and Polly were there too watching and to touch up the set. The set up for this show isn't too complicated as it isn't that prop heavy in terms of how many props the it has in comparison to shows I've worked on in the past for the company, some of which have had countless props with never ending lists to check to ensure nothing goes wrong in the show. Although it didn't take long to do we still had an hour and a half til we did the tech run at 2pm, so there was a lot of time to kill. As well as setting our props Charlotte and I also had to mark up our props table, set costumes and sort out sight lines in the wings so the audience won't see us during the performance, organisation and precision is paramount when doing this job so no slacking allowed!

The Actors all began arriving around 1:30pm to get ready. Even though costumes weren't essential for this run they chose to wear them anyway, Charlotte and I decided not to wear ours this time. Rick, actor from the other cast kindly did a milk run for us as Charlotte and I were busy getting ready. We began the run with few problem happening. There was one moment when the fan being used wasn't blowing enough for the helicopter but this was sorted quickly. Some quick changes were slow for some but again this was a problem that was sorted quickly as well. For some of the scene changes I do, Ron has been giving me more things to do to fill time between scenes in terms of striking more props and slowing down the pace in which I do them. Ron and Rebecca spoke to each other about lighting and sound ques for the show.
When we finished the run Charlotte and I re set our props in the wings ready for tomorrows tech/dress. I ran some costumes upstairs to be washed ready to be worn tomorrow. When Rebecca, Charlotte and I finished we packed up our belongings and went home.

My props table for the show.

Tomorrow we have a final tech run in costume before we open tomorrow evening. For info about how to purchase tickets go to http://www.southwoldtheatre.org/page/box-office

Wishing my cast and crew all the best for tomorrow. Break a leg guys!
