Funny Money in Aldeburgh Week One

Before beginning our week in Aldeburgh we had the night off to go and see the opening of P.G Wodehouse's stage adaptation of Jeeves and Wooster Southwold on Monday night that Mark Sterling directed. The show starred Tom Girvin as Bertie Wooster, Morgan Thrift as Jeeves and Rick Savery playing other characters in the show, with Hannah, Kitty and India stage managing.

Tuesday afternoon, Rebecca, Charlotte and I drove to Aldeburgh to set up for Funny Money. When we got there the first thing we did was unload props from the boxes and set them on our props tables in the wings. We began a technical run through of the play, the actors had the option of wearing costumes if they wanted to but not essential. After the tech run and a few notes from our director Andy we had a few hours free to kill to get some R&R before we began at 8pm that night. The evenings performance was well received and we had a celebratory drink at the Cross Keys Inn around the corner.

We didn't have Charlotte on Wednesday as she had the evening off to recover from an illness, so Rebecca and I had to fill in for her. One of the main things she has to do in the show is release the cuckoo clock from the strings back stage so it falls when shot by Clive at the end of act two.

Thursday we had two shows as usual. FOH were kind enough to buy chips for us between shows. Outside the theatre this week the RNLI had been doing activities outside in aid of their charity. On Thursday an orange Ferrari drove off for a tour around the country, and Saturday morning there were stalls out selling second had things and bric a brac.

After the show on Saturday night Rebecca got me to do some painting on the set where the paint had come off while Charlotte was re-setting the props in the wings. I used blue for the wall by the side table where the drinks are and white for the skirting where the picture I release from the string falls.

One more week to go. Lets see what it brings!
